First Ride of the New Year

We had a gorgeous day for a ride but only 2 Cyclopaths taking advantage of the beautiful sunshine and quiet winter roads. Ethan and Tam departed Swampscott at 8 am, stopping by the Salem bus stop at exactly 8:15. After waiting for 5 minutes to see if anyone might show up, (despite no one indicating that they would), they continued on to Beverly Farms, taking the backroads along the way. Ethan rode his single speed and got in quite a workout! At the DDs in Beverly Farms, an older gentleman mentioned to him that he was just diagnosed with bone cancer. With some words of encouragement, Ethan told him we'd ride for him in next summer's PMC. He seemed genuinely touched. (We wish you well, Dale Burkhardt).

After a coffee break, the pair headed back to Swampscott, startling a deer on the side of the road -- no doubt a cousin to the behemoth that Tam encountered on her Thanksgiving ride. The wind was brisk on the return, but not too cold. A terrific ride!
