The Witches Cup - August 13th

The Witches Cup returns to Salem Common on Wednesday, August 13. Hosted by Salem Cycle and Comprehensive Racing, this event was once a top-level national cycling race during the 1980s.

After a long hiatus, it was revived last summer, and will feature racing at all levels for both men and women around historic Salem Common, concluding with a professional race. The day's events will begin at 4 p.m. with the professional race at 6:45 p.m. Visit witchescup.com for complete details.

I am contemplating racing the Category 4/5 race but not having done any Wells Avenue crits I'm thinking it might not be the best idea.

If I do, it will be in Exxesx County Velo (ECV) blue and white.

If you've never seen a criterium come out and watch. It is exciting, close racing.

Well, I got talked into it by a couple of freinds (with freinds like these....).

I am just hoping to finish in the pack and remain upright.

Can't wear my Cyclopath jersey - it's not allowed by the rules. So ECV colors it is.

Wish me luck.

Have fun Bruce! Be careful! Would love to catch it but we'll be away from the 11th to the 17th. Hope you have a great time!

I missed it. I was thinking the race was on Sunday. Oops. It happened Wednesday afternoon.
Bruce- hope you had fun and remained upright.

Yes, I remained upright.

It was the hardest thing I've done and I did get pulled (officials pull riders once they are out of contact with the lead pack to make scoring easier and the race safer).

The pace was into the upper 20's by mid-way through the first lap and didn't let up for about 1/3 of the race.

I did see Carl King before the start and Sam after I was pulled.

Thoses Cat. 4 boys are REALLY strong and REALLY fast and WAY younger than me.

8^)
