The Year in Review

Looking back at the year 2006: After a mild winter, many Cyclopaths gathered to ride the first weekend in April, signaling an early arrival of Spring. Unfortunately, with spring weather often comes rain, and May was nearly a washout with record-breaking rain! (Remember the flooded basements?)

Our early spring also began on a sad note, as we lost our sweet friend, Sue de Vries, to breast cancer. It was an emotional loss to all of us and we'll never forget her strength, courage, and sense of humor. (Her spirit lives on.)

Several new riders joined us this year! Lynda joined us for the Passover Ride in April and quickly became one of the fold. As the summer continued we welcomed more new riders; Donna's friends, Ellen and Cape Cod Mike driving up from Cape Cod (!) on the weekends!; Deb and Patty joining us for a few rides this summer; and Margie and Fay riding with us this fall. Ethan's posse, (Phil, Jim, Adam, and Arthur) also joined us for many rides this year.

Noteworthy rides in 2006:
The 14th Annual Cohen Classic set out with 20 riders on the hottest day of the year. Temps that day topped 100 degrees!!
Sue's Sea Glass Ride, organized by Ethan, was a wonderful tribute to our friend Sue. Thank you Ethan and Larisa for a special day.
The Great Mass Getaway was rained out. A few intrepid Cyclopaths rode in the Nor'easter anyway.
And The Pan Mass Challenge was an amazing weekend of great riding and good friends -- 26 Cyclopaths rode in the event. Including our founders Sam, Bill, and Sheldon!

Speaking of Sam... he was MIA for most of the summer. Hope to see you soon, Sam!

We had many on the disabled list this year: Our fourth founding member, Av Hammer, underwent heart surgery in June. He was back on his bike surprisingly quickly! It was good to have him back! Others on the DL this year included Brenda (eye surgery), Drew (injured foot), Little Dave (sprained ankle), Mike Meehan (bike accident) and Bruce (bike accident). Here's hoping for a healthier 2007 for all!

New nicknames in 2006: Councilor Mike went Hollywood this year and became "Movie Star Mike"; Dave Henry introduced us to his mint and rum drinks and became known as "Mojito Dave".

Also happening in 2006: Lisa and Brian became engaged! Looking forward to hearing about their Saint Patrick's Day wedding!

Globetrotting Cyclopaths of 2006: Bob H. (The Swiss Alps); Drew (Germany); Joan and Paul (Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar); Mike B. (Tuscany); Carl (The Lewis and Clark trail); and Sue Burke (Taiwan). Sue Burke didn't come back! (Farewell, Sue!)

And finally... after a long wait we got new jerseys this year!! Hooray!

Happy New Year to All!
